Paris 2024 Paralympic Games: Tarn Taran’s Anita Sood appointed as Observer

Anita Sood, a celebrated figure in Indian athletics and a former national high jump champion, has been appointed as the observer for the Indian contingent at the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

(At 74 years old, Sood brings a wealth of experience and dedication to this prestigious role, following a remarkable career that saw her dominate the high jump arena from 1971 to 1974.

The announcement came through a formal letter from the Paralympic Committee of India, signed by Jayawant GH, the Secretary General. Sood, known for her exceptional performance in both high jump and hurdles, also played a pivotal role in leading Bengaluru University to victory in the All India University Athletics Championship held in Baroda in 1970.

Since her retirement from competitive athletics, Sood has remained a steadfast supporter of sports. Her involvement in sports continued unabated after her marriage in 1974, during which she has closely followed the development of Indian athletics and para-sports.

As the observer for the Indian team at the Paralympics, Anita Sood will oversee the team’s participation and provide support to ensure their success on the global stage. She expressed optimism about the upcoming games, stating her hopes that Indian para-athletes will surpass previous achievements and secure over 20 medals.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are set to take place from August 28 to September 8, and Sood’s appointment underscores the significance of experienced and passionate individuals in supporting and nurturing India’s sporting talents.
