Pujara-Kohli partnership consolidate Indian innings after early blow

Visakhapatnam, Nov 17 (IBNS): A 70-run partnership between Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara helped hosts India consolidate their innings following an early setback, here on day one of the second Test match against England.

Skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first on a pitch that is conducive to spin.

The first blood was drawn in the second over of the day, as KL Rahul, who made his comeback after more than 40 days, was sent back to to the pavilion for a duck.

Murali Vijay, who showed glimpses of his old form in the Rajkot Test by scoring a century, was the next to depart.

Vijay's brief innings of 20 runs was laden with four boundaries.

Struggling at 22 for the loss of two wickets, normalcy returned to the Indian dressing room following a steady partnership between Pujara (37) and Kohli (35).

At lunch, India have put on 92 runs for the loss of two wickets.

For England, pacemen Broad and Anderson have picked up a wicket each.
