Rohit's ton set Australia for a steep target of 310

Perth, Jan 12 (IBNS) Riding high on Rohit Sharma's unbeaten century, Team India managed to post a huge total for host Australia to chase and win the first ODI of the 5-match series, here on Tuesday.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first,India put up 309 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. 

India lost their opener Shikhar Dhawan (9) for 36 runs.

After a brief first wicket partnership, Rohit Sharma batted with Virat Kohli for more than 35 overs as the duo frustrated the Aussie bowlers and stitched together a 207-run partnership for the second wicket.

As Virat posted his half-century, Rohit eased past his hundred to pile in the woes for the hosts.

Finally the partnership was broken when Virat fell prey to James Faulkner, nine short of a hundred.

Kohli's innings of 91 was laden with 9 boundaries and a six.

Rohit on the other hand remained unbeaten at 171 off 163 balls. His innings comprised of 13 fours and 7 maximums.

After Kphli's departure, skipper MS Dhoni played a brief cameo of 18 runs off 13 balls, hitting a four and a six in his innings.

In innings was followed by Ravindra Jadeja's, who scored 10 off 5 balls.

For Australia, James Faulkner was the pick of the bowlers, picking up 2 wickets for 60 runs off 10 overs.

Josh Hazlewood picked up a wicket too and was the most economical bowler.
