Shane Watson named skipper in third T20 International match against India
Regular T20 skipper Aaron Finch has suffered a hamstring injury.
The third and last T20 match of the series will be played on Sunday.
Usman Khawaja has been named as Aaron Finch's replacement in the squad.
"It is an honour to be asked to lead the side on Sunday, although the circumstances are far from ideal," Watson was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia website.
"We may have lost the series but there is a great deal to play for with the ICC World Twenty20 coming up and you can be sure we will be determined to do well in Sydney," he said.
