Gangtok/IBNS: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art archery academy in Namchi district. The academy, named after renowned Olympian archer Padmashri Tarundeep Rai, aims to provide comprehensive training and modern facilities to aspiring archers.

With an estimated cost of Rs 30.400 crore, the academy will cover a spacious 2.461-hectare plot of land and have a capacity to accommodate up to 60 trainees at a time, reported EastMojo.

Tarundeep Rai, a three-time Olympian and recipient of the prestigious Padma Shree and Arjuna Awards, was present at the stone-laying ceremony along with World Cup champion Deepika Kumari.

The academy, equipped with cutting-edge technology and essential facilities, will play a vital role in nurturing and honing the talents of archery enthusiasts in Sikkim.

During the event, Chief Minister Golay expressed his congratulations to Tarundeep Rai and emphasized the academy's significance in promoting archery in the state. Rai, appreciative of the government's initiative, acknowledged the honor of having the academy named after him and pledged to provide proper guidance and training to aspiring archers.

He also highlighted the importance of preserving the traditional practice of archery while nurturing the growth of modern archery as an Olympic sport.

Archery holds deep-rooted cultural significance in Sikkim, and the establishment of this academy will contribute to the development and representation of the state's archers at national and international levels.

With the availability of improved infrastructure, talented players from Sikkim aspire to excel and bring pride to both their state and the country.
