South Africa beat India by five runs to take 1-0 lead
Chasing South Africa's 303 for five, India lost the momentum at the end to manage to score 298 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 50 overs,
Igniting hopes of turnaround after the T20 series defeat, Rohit Sharma gave India a solid platform at the top with his 133- ball 150 where he smashed 13 boundaries and six sixes out of the park.
Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan ( 23) and Ajinkya Rahane (60) laid a solid foundation at the top of the innings which made the target quite easy to achieve.
However, India lost wickets at regular intervals late in the innings with Rabada showing both MS Dhoni (31) and Stuart Binny (2) the door towards the pavilion in two deliveries that helped the visitors win the first match and take 1-0 lead in the series.
Imran Tahir took two wickets for South Africa.
Earlier, riding on AB de Villiers' unbeaten 104 runs knock, South Africa posted 303 runs on the scorecard.
F du Plessis contributed 62 runs with his willow.
Umesh Yadav took two wickets for India.
