Mumbai/Kolkata, June 8 (IBNS): Tata Motors on Friday announced partnering the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) for ‘Oorja’ – CAPF’s under-19 football talent hunt tournament 2017, to select India’s under 19 girl’s and boy’s football team, at the FIFA under 19 football tournament scheduled to be held in India, for the very first time in October 2017.

Organized by the Central Armed Police Forces, Oorja is driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi´s vision of making football the sport of choice in India, through ‘Mission XI Million’, the biggest school sport outreach program to encourage children to play football, to gain healthy habits and learn important life lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship, the company said in a  statement.

The approach is to work with school principals and sports teachers to encourage and instill the passion for football in 11 million children from every part of the country.

Kicking-off the second phase of Oorja in Chandigarh and Ahmedabad today, Tata Motors along with the CRPF seeks active participation from sports enthusiast and supporters in both cities.

Commenting on the announcement, Vernon Noronha, Head, Defence Business, Tata Motors, said, “Sports has the power to break barriers and we at Tata Motors are committed to the welfare of societies proudly associating with Oorja 2017, a grass-root level initiative to bring the beautiful game of football to millions of Indian boys and girls around the country, especially in rural India. As an internationally recognised game, football is a low-cost high-impact tool for development, a powerful agent for social change and as trusted partners to the CAPF’s, we are happy to work with them for such a developmental agenda, for the youth of our nation. As the teams get ready to participate in the second phase of Oorja, we wish all the participants the very best.”
