Tokyo/IBNS: India Friday guaranteed the second medal in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020 after boxer Lovlina Borgohain won the quarterfinal clash here.

Lovlina defeated her Chinese Taipei opponent, Nien-Chin Chen, to cruise into the semifinals, securing at least a bronze medal.

Borgohain, a two-time world championship bronze-medallist, outclassed Chen 4-1 to make the last-four.

Lovlina had beaten Germany’s Nadine Apetz in the Round of 16. She will now face reigning world champion Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey.

Before Lovlina, India won a silver medal in weightlifting, courtesy to Mirabai Chanu.

Vijender Singh (2008) and M C Mary Kom (2012) are the two boxers, who had won bronze medals for India in the past.
