Srinagar/IBNS: FICCI organised a marathon race at Hari Niwas Palace, Jammu to broadcast the message of women’s empowerment in the society on Sunday.

The thirteen kilometer long race was attended by hundreds of women from Jammu and a few male runners also attended the race in solidarity with the women power.

Chairperson of Waqf Development Committee of Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, and FICCI J&K Chairperson, Rani Ritu Singh, flagged off the race.

Dr Andrabi said women in modern times have proved by their power and ability that they were not any more desperate and weak creatures but were the real support of the society.

“Woman has broken the myth of Abla Nari as she is now in a commanding position in the society. Government schemes and programmes have also empowered her greatly. Indian women have shown their mettle in every sphere of life,” said Dr Andrabi.

She said that education and information mechanisms have equipped Indian women with awareness about their rights and their capabilities, but still much needs to be done.

“Sportspersons like young Ankita Raina are an inspiration for young girls of J&K and we all need to encourage talented girls in J&K to excel in different sports events so that on one hand they feel empowered and on the other hand they get inspired to fulfill their dreams at national and international platforms,” she said.
