World Cup: India beat Pakistan by 76 runs
Adelaide, Feb 15 (IBNS): Riding on a big knock of Virat Kohli, India beat arch rivals Pakistan by 76 runs to register a spectacular win in their World Cup encounter here on Sunday.
With their batsmen surrendering one after another, Pakistan were far away from the 301 run target India set for them riding on a scintillating century of Virat Kohli (107). Pakistan were all out for 224 runs in 47 overs.
Pakistan batsmen just fell to Indian bowling. Mohammed Shami of India took four wickets conceding only 35 runs. Misbah-ul-Haq was the only batsman of Pakistan putting up a fight at the end but he was caught at 76 (84 balls).
Earlier, Team India made 300 runs after playing 50 overs in its first high voltage encounter with Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 losing seven wickets.
Pakistani bowler Sohail Khan had picked up 5 wickets against India conceding 55 runs.
In their innings, India started losing some crucial wickets successively in the last few overs like that of skipper MS Dhoni, Vice Captain Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane.
However, Team Blue made it to 300 riding on the shoulders of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina.
Kohli tried to go out for a big shot when Akmal took the catch. He was out after making 107 from 126 balls.
Sohail Khan earlier got a big wicket for Pakistan with Suresh Raina's fall.
Raina made 74 from just 56 balls.
Pakistan earlier gained some fillip as they dismissed Shikhar Dhawan in a run-out in their first encounter with India. Dhawan left the crease at 73.
While India won the toss and elected to bat first , Indian fans received an early disappointment when Rohit Sharma exited the field by giving a simple catch to Misbah-ul-Haq.
Losing Sharma's wicket, Virat Kohli came to the crease.
All hopes were then pinned on Kohli and Suresh Raina, who truly dominated the field.
India are the current world champions.
Incidentally, they have never lost a World Cup match against Pakistan.
