World T20: England chase down mammoth target to upset South Africa
Joe Root and his men scored the required runs in 19.4 overs, pulling off a massive win after their bowlers were taken to the cleaners by the Proteas batsmen.
After winning the toss and deciding to field first, the English bowlers were punished by the South African opening players, who put up 96 runs inside 7 overs.
Both Hashim Amla (58) and Quinton de Kock (52) scored briskly to set a solid platform.
A quick fire 54 from JP Duminy and 28 off 12 balls from David Miller catapulted their score to an excess of 220 runs.
For England, Moeen Ali picked up 2 wickets.
Chasing the score, the English batsmen too played an attacking brand of cricket, scoring 48 runs inside two and a half overs.
Jason Roy scored 43 runs off 16 balls, hitting five fours and 3 sixes.
England skipper Joe Root send the Proteas bowlers for a leather hunt as he tonked four sixes and six fours in his 44-ball innings of 83.
Needing 11 of the last two overs with five wickets in hand, England had a minor blip as they lost 3 quick wickets but reached the target eventually.
Root was adjudged the man of the match.
