Russia becomes first country to register Covid-19 vaccine, names it 'Sputnik V'

Moscow/IBNS: Russia on Tuesday said the Covid-19 vaccine developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute has been named 'Sputnik V' in reference to the 1957 launch of a Soviet satellite, soon after President Vladimir Putin announced his country was the first to register a coronavirus vaccine.

Moscow/IBNS: Russia has become the first country in the world to register a vaccine against COVID-19, President Vladimir Putin announced on Tuesday during a government meeting, Russian news agency Sputnik said.
