Canada condemns death sentence to its national in China on drug smuggling charges, alarms global community

Ottawa, Jan 15 (IBNS): Canada has condemned the decision of a Chinese court sentencing to death Canadian national Robert Schellenberg on Monday on charges of drug smuggling. The news also evoked condemnation from human rights groups like Amnesty decrying it strongly.

UN rights experts call on Bangladesh to annul death sentence against opposition member

New York, Aug 24 (Just Earth News): Amid reports that the trial of Mir Quasem Ali, a senior opposition member, and its appeal processes were marred with irregularities and failed to meet international fair trial and due process standards, a group of United Nations human rights experts have urged the Government of Bangladesh to annul the death sentence imposed upon him, and to re-try him in compliance with international standards.
