Essential Travel Advice for Seniors in 2020 and Beyond

| @indiablooms | Nov 23, 2020, at 06:59 pm

As the end of the year approaches, many people are making travel plans to  reconnect with family members from around the globe. Unfortunately, COVID-19 still poses a major health and wellness threat for many individuals –– particularly seniors. Indeed, if you’re over 65, but thinking about traveling in the near future, you should take certain precautions to protect yourself and others. Here, we’ll outline five bits of essential travel advice that seniors can use now and well into the future. Trust us, you’ll  want to keep this list handy:

Don’t Rush Plans
Under normal circumstances, it’s not a good idea to make hasty travel decisions. Trying to plan a trip in the space of a couple of days can lead to many annoying travel issues. Of course, the current situation presents the unique challenges associated with the coronavirus. As such, it’s important for senior citizens to recognize when a travel plan isn’t feasible. No one likes putting off travel plans, but it’s better to deal with a delay than to go on a trip fraught with problems.

Follow Health Guidelines
Seniors –– like all travelers –– should make it a point to follow all COVID-19 related health guidelines and stipulations for as long as they remain in place. This could include, but is not limited to, wearing a mask, maintaining a safe social distance, and washing your hands frequently.

Speak to Your Doctor
Before you head out on a long trip, you should first consult with your doctor. Not only can doctors offer you helpful health advice, but they may also be able to diagnose and treat a number of common ailments. For example, it might be a good idea to deal with a painful tailor's bunion before your next trip.

Build an Itinerary
Whether you’re traveling for a specific purpose or to simply enjoy a new location, you should always have at least a basic itinerary in place. This will help you stay on schedule and avoid problems associated with finding accommodations. Plus, having a detailed schedule will allow you to prioritize multiple events during your trip.

Enjoy Yourself
At the end of the day, traveling is supposed to be fun. It doesn’t matter if you’re visiting a place for the first time, or you’re going to see old friends or family members, traveling can be an amazing experience. While there obviously are a number of considerations seniors should make before and during their trip, they shouldn’t forget to have fun along the way. So kick back and relax when you next head out on vacation!
