Chennai/UNI: The Tamil Nadu government has sent a Rs 563.50 crore tourism development package for Mahabalipurm promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to the Centre for approval, Governor Banwarilal Purohit told the State Assembly today.

Delivering his customary address in the first session of 2020, he also urged the Union government to accord speedy approval for the proposal.

He said the second India-China Informal Summit meeting between Mr Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping was held in Mahabalipuram on October 11 and 12 last year.

The extensive security and other arrangements made for the event ensured that it was conducted smoothly with least disruption to the local people and received widespread appreciation.

Mr Purohit said the Prime Minister promised a tourism development package for Mahabalipuram and a proposal for Rs.563.50 crore has been prepared and sent to the Central Government for approval.

As a follow-up, a high-level Chinese delegation also visited Chennai recently.
