Kabul, Sept 3 (IBNS): The US on Monday confirmed the killing of an Islamic State leader in Afghanistan during an airstrike carried out by the coalition forces in the Asian nation.

The air raid was conducted in eastern Nangarhar province on Aug. 25, killing Abu Saad Orakzai, the US military said in a statement as reported by Pajhwok Afghan News on Sunday.

Gen. Scott Miller, who took command of the NATO-led Resolute Support mission was quoted as saying by the Afghanistan-based news agency: "America and his allies are in Afghanistan to maintain pressure on trans-regional terrorists attempting to plot, resource and direct attacks from here.”

10 other fighters of the group were also killed during the airstrike, reports said.
