Afghanistan: Presidential polls to be held on July 20

Kabul, Dec 31 (IBNS): Thre presidential polls in Afghanistan will be held on July 20.

Earlier, the polls were scheduled to be held on Apr 20.

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) made the announcement on the new date on Sunday.

IEC chief Abdul Badai Sayyad was quoted as ssaying by Pajhwok Afghan News that bringing about huge and fundamental forms, recruitment of the commission employees, designation of polling stations, preparation of voter lists and the biometric system were reasons that prompted the delay in the presidential ballot.

The IEC head further told the news agency that the previous presidential election witnessed problems in areas of transformation, procurement, funding, campaigning and voter registration process.
