After 16 years, London eatery closes as Indian-origin owner alleges repeated attacks by Pakistanis

An Indian-origin entrepreneur in London has announced that he will shut down his restaurant after 16 years in business, citing rising costs, repeated disturbances and alleged attacks by Pakistanis.

Harman Singh Kapoor, owner of ‘Rangrez’ in Hammersmith, London, said the eatery will close next month.

“After 16 unforgettable years, I’ve made the difficult decision to close Rangrez restaurant Hammersmith next month,” Kapoor wrote on X.

Explaining the reasons behind his decision, Kapoor said, “Rising costs, ongoing online harassment, repeated disturbances and attacks by Pakistanis, and a lack of proper support from the Met Police have made it impossible to continue.”

He added that he now intends to focus fully on activism. “Now it’s time for me to dedicate myself fully to activism without distraction. Radicals should keep this in mind: you can disrupt my business, but not my will. I’m coming after you stronger now, with no strings attached,” he wrote.

In 2023, Kapoor had alleged that his restaurant was targeted by Khalistani activists. Speaking to ThePrint at the time, he claimed that a group of men carrying “concealed weapons” arrived at the restaurant, banged on the glass doors and shouted slurs in Punjabi.

“As you can see from the video, they were banging on the windows. I had managed to lock the doors in time. We had two customers inside. Everyone was terrified,” he told ThePrint.

“We called the police. We requested them to look at this matter urgently, but no officers came to the restaurant,” Kapoor alleged. “After some time, the goons left.”

A video of the incident had gone viral on social media at the time.
