Colombo, Jun 26 (Xinhua): Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena said on Wednesday that he was satisfied with the security situation in the island country as all leading suspects involved in the Easter Sunday terror attacks had been apprehended or killed.

Sirisena told media here that security forces continued to conduct search operations to hunt for more suspects but all the "leading suspects" had been apprehended.

He said the country however continued to remain under a state of emergency as security forces needed more time to question the arrested persons.

"Without the emergency laws, we cannot mobilize the forces. We need more time to question the apprehended suspects so the emergency would remain for another month," Sirisena said.

He added that new laws were also being drafted to ban illegal groups in the country.

Over 250 people were killed and 500 injured when suicide bombers targeted churches and luxury hotels in the country on April 21.
