Ankara: Russian ambassador to Turkey shot dead

Ankara, Dec 20 (IBNS): Apparently protesting against the Russia's involvement in Aleppo, the Russia's Ambassador to Turkey has been shot dead, media reports said.

According to reports, a Turkish policeman has shot Andrei Karlov dead.

His name has been identified as Mevlut Mert Aydintas.

"The killer has been identified as Mevlut Mert Aydintas, 22, a member of the Ankara riot police," BBC reported.

According to reports, the gunman while attacking the envoy shouted "Don't forget Aleppo."

Envoy Andrei Karlov was confirmed dead by a Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman.

The gunman, who was dressed in black suit and tie, has been reportedly "neutralised" after the attack.
