Anti-abortion posters surface in Rome, face backlash from women
Rome, May 15 (IBNS): Anti-abortion posters linking it with femicide have appeared in Italy's capital city Rome, inviting scathing criticism from women.
Appealing to the mayor Virginia Raggi, feminist groups have called the posters disgraceful.
Abortion is legal in Italy and has been so for nearly four decades.
The campaign, run by Madrid-based CitizenGo group, has said that it has timed it to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Italy's Law 194, which legalised abortion within the first 12 weeks of conceiving.
Some critics have objected to the word femicide the group has used in its posters.
However, relentless in its campaign, CitizenGo has said that abortion has long been used in Italy to suppress women, leaving "millions of babies killed and women injured".
Targeting its critics, the group has also said that the former are able to pick on the latter as 'they had not been aborted themselves'.
