Canada: An abused and malnourished dog found on Scarborough street

Toronto, Jan. 6 (IBNS): Toronto Animal Services have stated that a dog found abused and malnourished in Scarborough near Toronto on Christmas Eve was recovering in a foster home after receiving treatment, media reports said..

The male Apricot Poodle was found by a passerby in a residential area near Sheppard Avenue East and Meadowvale Road.

He took the dog to an emergency veterinary clinic, 680 News reports said.

The poodle, which TAS named Frankie, is between one and two years old.

It weighs about seven pounds.

A post on the Facebook account of Toronto Animal Services (TAS) said, “He was found at Rouge River Dr. and Jaguar St. by a Good Samaritan on Christmas Eve. He was outside, by himself, with an elastic band around his nose. Frankie was obviously distressed and very thin due to chronic malnutrition. The elastic had caused severe injury to Frankie's nose and to the tissue inside his mouth. The Good Samaritan took Frankie to a Veterinary Emergency Clinic in the area and Toronto Animal Services has taken responsibility for him.”

According to TAS the dog was recovering and eating well but it may require surgery to fix the tissue around its muzzle.

“Despite the horrible abuse that Frankie has sustained, he presents as a happy, pleasant, trusting dog — heartbreakingly typical of dogs in his situation,” TAS said in a post on Instagram.

There were other posts on the Instagram in which many people expressed their desire to adopt Frankie.

The post added that it would make known whenever Frankie is available for adoption.

Another post on Instagram states, “Is it ok to post Frankies photo in the area so maybe people will recognize him and can help identifyung who the owner is? I live very close to the area. I'm an animal advocate and so mad for wthat they did to Frankie. And I would like to help - so I would like to ask your permission to post Frankie's photo. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE HIM BACK TO THE OWNER - HE WILL FOR SURE ABUSE POOR FRANKIE AGAIN. Thank You.”

TAS requested anyone with information about the case to call 416-338-7297.
