Canada collects $300 million from counter-tariffs imposed on the US

Ottawa, Sept 11 (IBNS): Canada has collected $300 million from the counter-tariffs imposed on steel, aluminium imports from the US, media reports said.

The new numbers have been provided by Canada Border Services Agency on American imports in August and July, 2018.

In total, more than $286.5 million in tariffs are collected from the particular imported goods from the US.

Canada had imposed trade tariffs on US imports after US President Donald Trump imposed of 25% and 10% tariffs on imported steel and aluminium respectively from any other country.

Trump has alleged that the US faced severe losses in trade pacts with Canada and Mexico, which is the other partner of NAFTA deal.

NAFTA is an agreement which came into force from January 1994 by Canada, Mexico and United States creating a trilateral trade bloc in North America.
