Canada invests in key industries to provide paid jobs to students
The programme could provide 10,000 paid work placements in next four years.
The funding for the programme was announced by the federal government in 2016 budget.
The kind of job will also include contract-based and part times.
The industries with which the government has signed deals are information and communication technology, aerospace and aviation, the environment, and biotechnology and business.
The programme which is beginning from the school year 2017-2018, will provide wage subsidies to the companies related to these industries to cater active students who needs work placements for finishing their post-secondary programmes.
The report said the government will pay half of the student's wage upto $5,000 and 70% upto $7,000 for first year students and "underrepresented groups". "Underrepresented groups" refers to women in male-dominated programs, Indigenous students and people with disabilities.
Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, was quoted by the Star as saying: "There does tend to be a bit of a lag between students graduating and getting a position in their field."
"This allows us to try to address that and to close that gap" she added.
