Canada: Justin Trudeau praised in Donald Trump’s speech to Congress

Toronto, Mar 1 (IBNS): Canada’s prime minister Justin Trudeau was applauded by U.S. President Donald Trump in his first speech on Tuesday, to a joint session of the American Congress, media reports said.

Trudeau was acknowledged by Trump for taking the initiative to create a women’s business group during his recent visit to Washington.

“With the help of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, we have formed a council with our neighbours in Canada to help ensure that women entrepreneurs have access to the networks, markets and capital they need to start a business and live out their financial dreams,” said Trump, National Post reports said.

Canada’s immigration system was also acknowledged by Trump during his remarks on immigration reform in his speech.

“Nations around the world, like Canada, Australia and many others, have a merit-based immigration system,” Trump said.

Trump added in U.S. also such immigration reforms were possible if Americans respected the country’s laws and tried to improve its economical status by reducing unemployment and increasing wages for Americans.

“If we are guided by the well-being of American citizens then I believe Republicans and Democrats can work together to achieve an outcome that has eluded our country for decades,” said Trump.

During his speech Trump also promised to keep in mind the Canadian interests and build the Keystone XL pipeline, to withdraw from the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership and look into border adjustment tax.
