Toronto, May 2 (IBNS): Conservative MP Gord Brown has died after suffering a cardiac arrest in his Parliament Hill office on Wednesday morning, media reports said.

Brown (57) represented the Ontario riding of Leads-Grenville-Thousand islands and Rideau Lakes.

He was the Ontario MP since 2004.

Brown is survived by his wife Claudine and two sons, report said.

Expressing grief over the sudden demise of Brown, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said "members of the parliament are mourning".

In a statement, Trudeau said: "On behalf of the Government of Canada, I extend my deepest condolences to his wife Claudine, their two children, and his friends, colleagues, and the many people he represented in his riding.

"Since 2004, Gord proudly served his constituents, drawing on his experience as a town councillor, a businessman, and an active community member and leader."

Speaking about Brown, Trudeau said: "He always showed a deep appreciation and understanding of what it took to bring people together, including our parliamentary community. He brought warmth and kindness to the House of Commons, and was a good friend to everyone, on all sides of the aisle.

“Gord, you will be greatly missed."
