Quebec City, Feb 9 (IBNS): Quebec Superior Court on Friday sentenced a Quebec mosque shooter to life imprisonment, media reports said.

Alexandre Bissonnette, the accused, will be eligible for parole only after 40 years of his imprisonment.

Bissonnette pleaded guilty in last March.

He was charged with six counts of first-degree murder and another six of attempted murder.

The Crown had recommended a six consecutive jail terms for Bissonnette leading the total number of his years behind bars to 150.

However, the defence had argued the accused must be eligible to get parole after 25 years of his jail term.

On Jan 29, 2017, Bissonnettee had walked into the mosque during evening prayers and opened fire.
