Canada: Woman reporter confirms encounter with PM Trudeau at music festival

Calgary, July 7 (IBNS): A former woman reporter has confirmed that she had an encounter with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at a music festival in British Columbia in 2000, media reports said.

The confirmation came after Trudeau was recently asked by reporters about an incident where he had allegedly groped a woman at a festival 18 years ago.

Rose Knight confirmed that she was the woman who is in the topic of discussion.

Issuing a statement, Knight said: "I enjoyed my career as a reporter, but it ended a long time ago. I avoided issuing a statement earlier out of concern for my and my family's privacy."

She added, "The incident referred to in the editorial did occur as reported. Mr. Trudeau did apologize the next day.

"Beyond this statement, I will not be providing any further details or information. The debate, if it continues, will continue without my involvement."

The statement has been quoted by CTV News.

However, Trudeau denied the incident.

He was asked about the incident in the central city of Regina on Canada's national day.

The allegations were brought almost two decades ago when Trudeau was not even involved in politics.

When asked about the incident, Trudeau said: "I remember that day in Creston well, it was an Avalanche Foundation event to support avalanche safety."

"I had a good day that day. I don't remember any negative interactions that day at all."

The PM has been quoted by Economic Times.

Few days after the festival in 2000, an unassigned editorial had claimed that Trudeau apologised to the reporter whom the PM had allegedly groped.

Trudeau was then 28.
