COVID-19: Bangladesh government likely to extend shutdown by 10 days
Dhaka/IBNS: Amid a spike in COVID-19 cases, the Bangladesh government is planning to extend the nationwide shutdown of offices and workplaces by 10 days from May 15, media reports said.
The extension will be announced after the plans are formally approved by the prime minister, a senior official of the public administration ministry told bdnews24.
"The lockdown will be extended to May 15. A notice on the matter will be issued once the prime minister approves the proposal," the official told the news portal.
Meanwhile, the country has recorded five more COVID-19 deaths.
The death toll due to the disease now stands at 175.
The tally of infections jumped to 8,790 after another 552 cases were reported in the same period, DGHS Additional Director General Nasima Sultana was quoted as saying by the news portal on Saturday.
