Washington/IBNS: US President Donald Trump on Sunday said the highest peak of the death rate due to COVID 19 outbreak in the country is likely to hit in the next two weeks.

The President also announced that all federal coronavirus guidelines such as social distancing will be extended across the nation until at least Apr 30.

He had earlier hinted that all restrictions might be relaxed as early as during Easter.

Easter this year will be observed in mid-April.

"The highest point in death rate is likely to hit in two weeks," he said.

"During this period it is important that everyone follows the guideline," he said.

The US has witnessed a spike in COVID 19 cases in recent times.

The country has registered 140,000 confirmed cases so far.
As of Sunday evening, 2,493 deaths had been recorded in the country in relation to Covid-19, according to figures collated by Johns Hopkins University, reported BBC.

Recently, the US overtook countries like China and Italy in the number of reported cases.
