District police chief killed in Taliban attack in Eastern Afghanistan

Kabul/UNI:  A district police chief was killed and four other police officers wounded during clashes with Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan's eastern Paktika province, a provincial police spokesman confirmed on Thursday.

"Abdullah Jan, police chief of Baak Khil district, was martyred and four police officers wounded during clashes with Taliban insurgents in the surrounding areas of Baak Khel district late on Wednesday night. The clashes erupted after the Taliban attacked several security checkpoints and clashed with police officers," spokesman Shah Mahmoud Arian said.

In the fighting the police managed to repulse the Taliban militants but sustained casualties in the process, however the exact number of casualties was not yet known. sustaining casualties, said the spokesman who gave no details about the exact figure of casualties.

Taliban militants, who ruled over Afghanistan before being ousted in 2001 have renewed their attacks on Afghan security personnel and civilians as well.
