Amsterdam, Sept 28 (IBNS): Police in the Netherlands have stopped a major terror attack from happening, reports said.

Officials have arrested at least seven men in connection with plotting the attack.

The said attack would have used guns and explosives.

"The suspects were in search of AK47s, hand guns, hand grenades, explosive vests and raw materials for several [car] bombs," prosecutors said in a statement.

The men were planning to target a large gathering in the Netherlands, police said.

The arrest took place on Thursday.

The arrested men are aged between 21 and 34.

Meanwhile, police had arrested three men for trying to join foreign militants.
