Exit polls suggest clear victory for Shinzo Abe, Japan to formalise armed forces
The expected results have shown Abe and his party winning two-thirds majority and retaining their position in the parliament.
Following the results, Abe has promised to deal with Pyongyang and take control of the Korea crisis.
"As I promised in the election, my imminent task is to firmly deal with North Korea.... For that, strong diplomacy is required," he told media.
Abe had called for an early election as he required a strong mandate to deal with the problems facing Japan.
The win will allow the Japanese Prime Minister to amend the nation's post-war pacifist constitution.
He had earlier called for the Japanese military to be formalised, which critics felt was a move to re-militarise the nation.
According to another poll conducted months ago, it was found that Abe's popularity was plummeting, but two missiles launched by North Korea over Japanese space on August and September, paved a way for the former's glory to return.
Abe is a strong critic of Kim Jong-un and North Korea, often demanding strong sanctions for the nation from international tribunals.
