Explosion rocks Jewish school in Amsterdam, PM calls it ‘terrible’

A Jewish school in Amsterdam was badly damaged on Saturday after an explosion struck the building, according to media reports.

The city’s mayor said the blast caused limited damage to the outer wall of the school located in the Buitenveldert district. No injuries have been reported so far.

Mayor Femke Halsema condemned the incident, calling it an act of aggression against the Jewish community.

“This is a cowardly act of aggression towards the Jewish community,” she was quoted as saying by BBC.

She added that Amsterdam must remain a city where Jewish residents can live safely and freely.

Following the explosion, security has been tightened across Jewish public institutions in the city as authorities investigate the incident.

Verschrikkelijk. In Nederland mag geen plek zijn voor antisemitisme. Ik begrijp de boosheid en angst en ga snel in gesprek met de Joodse gemeenschap. Zij moeten zich altijd veilig weten in ons land. https://t.co/pr2K5mfQJK
Meanwhile, Rob Jetten strongly condemned the attack, saying there is no place for antisemitism in the country.

“Terrible. There must be no place for antisemitism in the Netherlands. I understand the anger and fear, and I will soon enter into dialogue with the Jewish community,” he said.

“They must always feel safe in our country,” the prime minister added.

The incident comes at a time when tensions in the Middle East remain high amid the ongoing conflict involving Israel, the United States, and Iran.
