Fire at refugee camp in Gaza Strip leaves 21 people, including children, dead
Gaza: At least 21 people, including 10 children, died when a fire broke out at a building that is located in a densely populated refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, media reports said on Friday.
The number of deaths at Jabalia refugee camp following the fire - which is now under control - is likely to rise, Salah Abu Laila, director of emergency services at the Indonesian Hospital in north Gaza, told BBC.
A local security official told the BBC an initial investigation suggested there was a gas leak from a kitchen.
Gaza houses eight refugee camps and one among them is Jabalia.
Abu Laila described the fire as "huge", with videos on social media showing the entire building engulfed in flames.
A local eye witness said gasoline was stored in the building 'to operate generator'.
An eyewitness told the BBC: "It is very difficult, children and women burning without the possibility of saving them."
