Five soldiers killed by Boko Haram in Cameroon's Far North region
Yaounde (Xinhua/UNI) At least five Cameroonian soldiers were killed Saturday night by Boko Haram in a fight in Soueram, a locality in the country's Far North region, the army confirmed on Sunday.
Militants of the group burned houses and property and attacked a military command post in the locality, according to the army.
Nine other government soldiers including five marines and four gendarmes were wounded in the attack. Weapons were seized and the command post destroyed, a military officer who asked not to be named told Xinhua.
On Friday, two civilians were killed by the group in Kerawa, a locality in the Far North.
More than 2,000 people have been killed since Boko Haram launched attacks in the Far North since 2014, according to security reports. The intensity of attacks has declined for over a year despite some sporadic attacks.
