Former US President Obama to visit Toronto, will speak on global citizenship

Toronto, Sep 7 (IBNS): Former US President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Toronto late this month to speak on global citizenship, media reports said.

Obama will speak on September 29 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto.

The former US President will be hosted by a left leaning, non-profit Ottawa based think tank, Canada 2020.

This will be Obama's second visit to the country. Earlier, he came to Montreal in June.

Alex Paterson, a spokesman for Canada 2020, considers Obama's visit to be a major political event in Canada and he also expects a huge crowd to gather.

Paterson, however, feels the event will not be attended by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, though the latter dined with the former last time in Montreal.

It would be an interesting event to see whether Obama criticises the present US President Donald Trump at a time the latter is dismantling several policies made by the former.

One of the recent examples is the Paris accord from where the US has withdrawn its name.
