Perpignan, Dec 15 (IBNS): At least four teenagers were killed and 20 injured after a school bus and a train collided near Perpignan area of southern France's Pyrénées-Orientales, reports said.

The accident took place on a level crossing between Millas and Saint-Féliu-d'Amont.

Out of the 20 injured, 11 are said to be critical.

The bus was commuting children between the age 13 and 17.

The bus was reportedly cut in half following the crash.

France's Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, who visited the scene, was quoted by the BBC as saying, ""The priority at this stage is to give precise information to the families who are living through a period of anguish that we must make as short as possible."

The country's Transport Minister Elisabeth Borne termed it a 'terrible accident' and mourned the loss.

Condoling the loss, France's President Emmanuel Macron tweeted in French that his thoughts are with the bereaved families.
