Paris, May 7 (IBNS): Under the shadow of the recent terrorist attacks and Brexit, the citizens of France are casting their votes on Sunday in the second round of polls to elect their next president with political observers forecasting a keen contest between the anti-immigration Far Right Marine Le Pen and centrist Emmanuel Macron.

According to some polls 39-year-old Macron, a symbol of radical centrism, is a favourite over Le Pen who though is expected to register the best election result for her party National Front which was founded by her father in 1972.

If elected, Macron, of the En Marche (Onward) movement, without the backing of any big political party, will be youngest French president.

Voting in the country started from 8 am.

French citizens witnessed a rigorous campaign between Emmanuel Macron, the former investment banker and nationalist Marine Le Pen, 48.

Voting will continue till 7 PM while in some stations, it will stretch upto 8 PM.

While Macron is pro-business, Le Pen campaigned for France first, anti-immigration programme.

Macron is also a strong supporter of European Union.

However, Le Pen  wants to hold a referendum on France's EU membership.
