General Election in Pakistan will be held in July: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

Islamabad, Jan 23 (IBNS): Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday said the country's general election will held in July.

"We won't leave government even a second before our mandated time period," the PM was quoted as saying by Geo News.

He said it was not the  job of armed forces to guarantee the holding of the general elections in the country.

National Security Committee has decided that the polls will be held this year on time, the PM said.

Former PM Nawaz Sharif  will decide in case Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz clinches next election in the nation, the current PM said.

"Nawaz Sharif is still my prime minister," he said.

In a major blow, Pakistan's Supreme Court disqualified Sharif as Prime Minister of the country after an inquiry into the 2016 Panama Papers was held.

The inquiry linked Nawaz Sharif's family to offshore companies.
