Greek president Katerina Sakellaropoulou tests COVID-19 positive

Athens: Greek president Katerina Sakellaropoulou has tested COVID-19 positive.

She showed mild symptoms and has been quarantined at her home, reports Greek City Times.

The planned activities of the president have been postponed.

In addition, the general secretary of the prime minister, Grigoris Dimitriadis, was found to be positive for virus too, the newspaper reported.

As a fresh surge of coronavirus cases are being reported in several countries, the global coronavirus cases on Wednesday crossed 500 million cases and the death toll was more than 6 million.

The latest Johns Hopkins University said in its latest data that the total number of Covid cases reached 500,937,232 and the global death toll was 6,185,548.

As per the data, the US remains worst-hit country with 80,478,089 cases.

In Shanghai, the Chinese financial centre, the residents have been living in lockdown for past several days.

According to Xinhua, South Korea has reported 195,419 new Covid-19 cases.
