Imran Khan backs China over Xinjiang, says Islamabad's relationship with Beijing is 'very deep'

Islamabad: Pakistan PM Imran Khan has once again backed China over the persecution of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang and said he believes in Beijing's version of events that goes on in the controversial region.

In an interaction with the Chinese media, Khan chose to target India and said it is "hypocritical that there is no mention of the worst human rights violations being carried out in the Indian Occupied Kashmir" in the western media, reports The News International.

“There are UN Security Council resolutions on the Kashmir dispute which accept the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people,” he said having failed to garner support for his tirade against India which is pursuing a new progressive policy of development in Kashmir region after the abrogation of Article 375.

The Prime Minister said  Islamabad's relationship with Beijing will not change, despite any amount of pressure on Pakistan.

“The United States expects Pakistan to choose a side. This is not appropriate," Khan said.

“The relationship between Pakistan and China is very deep, it’s not just the governments, but it’s a people-to-people relationship,” he added.
