Imran Khan to hold 'big jalsa' over Kashmir issue in PoK today

Islamabad: Even after failing to garner support from any single nation, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is set to make another desperate attempt to catch the limelight over the Kashmir issue by holding a "big jalsa" in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Friday.

Khan on Wednesday tweeted, "I am going to do a big jalsa in Muzzafarabad on Friday 13 Sept, to send a message to the world about the continuing siege of IOJK by Indian Occupation forces; & to show the Kashmiris that Pakistan stands resolutely with them."

The fresh dispute between Pakistan and India developed after New Delhi scrapped Article 370 to withdraw Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

Though India has always maintained Kashmir is its internal matter, Pakistan made a futile attempt to internationalise the matter.

In a major embarrassment, Pakistan Interior Minister Brig Ijaz Ahmed Shah on Thursday said the international community believes India but not his own country over the Kashmir issue.

Taking on his Prime Minister, Shah blamed the "ruling elite" including Khan for tarnishing Pakistan's image.

While Pakistan is trying to project an image of Kashmiris suffering under the Narendra Modi government, Khan's own party colleague Baldev Kumar sought asylum in India.

Kumar, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member, has alleged that the minorities are being targeted in Khan's "Naya Pakistan" days after a Sikh girl was abducted, converted and forcefully married to a Muslim man in Pakistan's Punjab.
