Tehran/UNI: Iranian law enforcement forces have apprehended 137 individuals in the northwestern province of West Azerbaijan for inciting protests against the government.

According to Rahim Jahanbakhsh, the commander of the province's law enforcement forces, these individuals were identified for encouraging unrest via social media platforms.

In addition, 52 Instagram accounts have been blocked and permanently removed. Out of the 137 detainees, 14 have been arrested and handed over to the judicial authorities.

Iran's intelligence organization within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reported the neutralization of a terrorist network comprising 15 individuals in the province of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad.

This group had purportedly planned to carry out a series of terrorist attacks using improvised explosive devices.

The heightened security measures coincide with the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's tragic death, a young woman who passed away in the custody of Iran's morality police last year, following her detainment for not wearing a proper head covering.

Her death triggered widespread protests across Iran.
