Israel: Truck rams into people in Tel Aviv bus stop, 33 injured

| @indiablooms | Oct 27, 2024, at 11:05 pm

At least 33 people were wounded in a suspected terror attack after a truck rammed a bus stop in Israel's Tel Aviv city on Sunday.

The incident occurred close to Gillot Israeli military base.

Eight people are believed to be trapped under the truck.

“A truck hit dozens of people who had disembarked at a bus stop. Eight of the wounded were trapped under the truck and others were lying and walking near it,” a medic told The Times of Israel.

Security forces have cordoned off the area following the incident.

Civilians who were on-scene had shot at the truck driver and thwarted him, the Israel Police reported as quoted by The Jerusalem Post.

Abed Abou Shhade, a journalist from Jaffa in Israel, told Al Jazeera the truck driver is believed to be a Palestinian citizen from northern Tel Aviv.

“The civilians who witnessed the incident killed the driver as soon as they saw who he was,” he told the news channel.

“The police initially framed it as a terror attack. But now they have changed their line, saying the matter is still under investigation,” he added. “Everything is under speculation.”
