Tokyo: The Japanese government on Monday announced it would be honouring former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with the Collar of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum, the nation's highest decoration.

Kyodo News quoted the Cabinet Office as stating that Abe will be the fourth former Prime Minister to receive the decoration under the postwar Constitution after Shigeru Yoshida, Eisaku Sato and Yasuhiro Nakasone.

He was shot on July 8 by Tetsuya Yamagami in Nara during his campaign speech.
