Justin Trudeau defends his government's response to immigration issue

Ottawa, Aug 24 (IBNS): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended his government's act and response to the influx of thousands of asylum seekers across borders, media reports said.

The PM said Canadians can have faith in the country's immigration system.

Trudeau told media: "I can understand the concerns that Canadians have about whether this is a shortcut, whether somehow this is uncontrolled immigration."

Warning the immigrants who are crossing the borders illegally, the PM said: "The rules on Canada's immigration system continue to be enforced."

The continuous influx of asylum-seeker migrants in large numbers into the country imposed serious pressure on the Canadian government.

The migrants are crossing the border and entering into Quebec in search of asylum.

According to the Star, thousands of migrants entered into Quebec in a few weeks time.

The report also said the figure of influx multiplied rapidly this summer.

The RCMP's released figure was quoted by the Star which suggest around 3000 people entered into the country last month while more than 3000 in the first half of August.

In early August, a massive crowd gathered outside Montreal Olympic Stadium to support the asylum seekers who were sheltered in the stadium of Montreal.

The crowd who gathered to showcase their support for the asylum seekers, comprised of few people who earlier sought the same from the Canadian government.
