Kashmir divide: Pakistan FM Qureshi criticises Pak Senate Chairman cancelling UAE visit over honouring Modi

Islamabad, Aug 26 (IBNS): Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has reacted to the Pakistan Senate chairman's decision to cancel UAE visit over their move to confer Order of Zayed honour to Indian PM Narendra Modi and said one should not forget that the UAE had once bailed Pakistan out. His reaction is also an indication of the divide in Pakistan on how far they would be a prisoner of the Kashmir issue and the recent move by India on the disputed territory.

Modi, who was visiting UAE last week as part of his three-nation tour, was conferred with the  'Order of Zayed' honour. It is the country's highest civilian award.

"The UAE is a friend of Pakistan," the Minister told media.

"One should remember that UAE had helped Pakistan when this nation was in trouble," he said.

"Pakistanis should not be sentimental and remember this as well," he said, hinting that there might be differences emerging within Pakistan establishment about how long and how far to take the protest on Kashmir.

He said: "International relations are above sentiments." Pakistan is reeling under an economic crisis and opinions are differing on how far and how long to take the protest on India's Kashmir move.

Senate Chairperson Sadiq Sanjrani cancelled an official visit of his parliamentary delegation to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured on his recent tour to the Gulf nation, reported Geo News.

Sanjrani was scheduled to visit the nation from Aug 25 to Aug 28 on the invitation of the UAE government.

Relationship between India and Pakistan has touched new low ever since the PM Narendra Modi-led government made several announcements regarding Jammu and Kashmir.

The government scrapped Article 370 which had provided special status to the Indian state.
