Kenya: 50 km traffic congestion disrupts normal life

| | Nov 20, 2015, at 06:43 pm
Nairobi, Nov 20 (IBNS) Kenyan commuters travelling through the Nairobi-Mombasa highway found themselves trapped in a bizarre 50 km long traffic congestion that prevented movements of vehicles for over 48 hours, according to reports by the BBC.

Police were deployed to take control of the situation, which formed on Tuesday evening due to  the ongoing repairs of the road, aided by substantial downpour.

The highway is said to be one of the most important in East Africa as it forms the passage to other land lock countries, thus helping in the regulation of economy in the continent.

The Kenyan public, who are prone to traffic jams owing to their badly maintained roads, have termed it the worst in recent years.
