Karachi: Indian origin Pakistani political leader BM Kutty, who was born in Kerala, passed away at the age of 89 on Sunday, media reports said.

Kutty was suffering from prolonged illness.

Born in Kerala's Tirur, Kutty migrated to Pakistan at the age of 19.

Kutty, who was a member of the Communist Party-affiliated Kerala Students Federation, was associated with Pakistan Awami League and National Awami Party, the left-leaning parties of Pakistan.

In his autobiography 'Sixty years in self-exile: No Regrets; A Political Autobiography', he spoke about his journey from Kerala to Karachi. The book was published in 2011.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took to Facebook to condole his death.

"He was a leader who fought for the improvement of the relationship between India and Pakistan. He was a leader who fought for peace and against communalism. He was always close to Kerala," Vijayan said.
